At 6.30am, the 2 committee KO-ed, but I had to wake both of them as I don’t know the agenda. They had a rough time finding their agenda paper so we woke the juniors up at 7 anyway ( luckily Jo-Lyne has the agenda in her phone ). The juniors were blur I think, cuz they loitered around the fire to warm up for 15 minutes until I asked if they’d washed up ( which they didn’t ) so we shoo-ed them off. They had morning exercise with Szi Wei after that. Not sure what was their morning exercise tho. Tent inspection was carried out by Szi Wei and Wendy. I terlupa that MC needs scout uniform so I didn’t bring.. Yes, very stupid of me.. Sorry… (T.T) Takpe, I helped Geoffrey with breakfast preparations. We had bread with strawberry jam and baked beans. The campsite was filled with flies so we had to jaga the food ( Food Guardians! xP ).
We used chopping knife and penknife to spread the jam.. Geng hor?
Boys tent
Amount of flies there are.. This is only a few of them
Scout rules and oath test then followed. Basic marching test was next and we gave them 30 minutes to train while we seniors looked for/chopped firewood. I was very disappointed with their marching as they weren’t alert and looked blur + dying. Marching is my favourite wei, I devote my time on marching. To see that their discipline is so low is annoying. I marah-ed them during their first try. During their 2nd try, only Yeong Ken passed. Well, at least someone passed… Szi Wei’s dad went backright after marching test ended. ater, Kah Pohh re-took his machete test while the others helped to collect firewood, chop firewood and sharpen our machetes. Some people.. *ahem Geoffrey* used the machete until hit the ground till sparks came out. Satyan,Wai Yan and Wendy please take note on this... xD
Parang on the floor!! Horrrr
Ask you to chop, you laugh pulak.. Jo-Lyne marah liao
Wendy devoted her time trying to call Alvin as he was supposed to buy the items but the stupid fella… 9.30 we called, he just woke up and haven’t bought the stuff. I called my dad and he told me only Shau Yuan brought the stuff to him while Alvin was supposed to bring the stuff at 10am. We tried calling Alvin again but he off his phone so we instead called Shau Yuan. Apparently Alvin called Shau Yuan to buy the items and that fella didn’t tell us that.. SWT!!! Everyone damn marah Alvin that time.
They then had STA ( Spare Time Activities ) so a few decided to do their own things while Kah Pohh and Wai Guan took their Malaysia and Selangor flag test. In the middle of the test, Wai Guan got sting by an insect. The sting mark was visible but I don’t think there was any sting. However, the area around it was itchy and painful for him so we applied some medicine. He didn’t look well after the incident, its like he lost his energy. Lunch time next! Kangkung, rice, sardine and fried eggs were served. After washing up, we were all in the campsite when suddenly…
KahPohh: Senior!! What happened to Wai Guan?
Seniors: Huh? What?! *panicked* Where’s he? He fainted? What what????
KahPohh: Nola, his head is outside the groundsheet. He sleep until like that, so weird.
Seniors: ……………………………… * Jo-Lyne checks on WG who was only sleeping and is fine*
This is zadao number 2.
This butterfly thought my cap had nectar.. It was literally sticking out its tongue thingy
At about 2 something both my parents came, so Szi Wei, Geoffrey and I went down to collect the stuff they brought while Wendy and Jo-Lyne tested the juniors on Section 1 of road rules and regulations. I’m surprised my dad volunteered to come but more suprising is my mum coming! Lol.. Anyway, they brought the items we needed and followed us as we trekked back to campsite. They only stayed for a few minutes before leaving as it was about to rain soon. I’m really glad they came ( only cuz I know they cared deeply for me and can bring the items, but not cuz they brought a bottle of F&N strawberry and 3 boxes of biscuits ). Everyone passed their road rules test.
10 minutes after my parents left, it started to rain so everyone got into their tents while seniors went inside the kitchen. As the rain got heavier…
Senior! Lao sui a!
First was the girl’s tent. Ok fine, we understand it needs fixing as a few QM items are in it. Then came shouts from the boy’s tent. We were like, okaaay. Not our problem also. Your tent engineering is poor and when your groundsheet is not tied and place properly of course will kena water la! Come on juniors, use your common sense and save your tent!
Us watching the juniors struggle.. I know we're evil x]
Look at that view and the mist after it rained.. Stunning!
When the rain stopped, it was time to cook dinner + bath but since the river is dangerous after it rains so the juniors didn’t get to bath. Instead, they took their scout hand signals test. A number of them passed. After that, Choon Huang took his firelighting test. Unfortunately he didn’t save the leaves from rain ( we covered our firewood with a flysheet to prevent it getting wet ) so he failed. Instead, Szi Wei got a fire started and we tried to maintain it as it started to rain again. Luckily it subsided but the junior’s tent still has water problems so Jo-Lyne decided to put an end to it – seniors helped fix it.
We spread the flysheet ( their roof ) wider for a bigger space and fixed their very wobbly frame. The groundsheet was wet and most complained until Szi Wei said they should try sleeping while sitting or find another alternate way ( which of course, they malas think of a better way and followed Szi Wei instead.. very ‘good’ right? Hahaha!...pui la~ good my ass, they just wait to be instructed, not use their common sense and DIY ).
Despite the wet groundsheets, we carried on with our exams; items in first aid kit. Nobody passed tho as they weren’t taught on it and didn’t study properly. You know what? Jo-Lyne tested them earlier.. She took up the menstrual pills and asked what is it. Nobody could answer and they even read the back of the pill cover. Then Yeong Ken said; “ I know! It’s only used for adults! “ Jo-Lyne laughed kao kao when she told us about it.. Hahahahaha. Anyway, sadly when I was about to teach them it started to rain again so we instead let them sleep earlier. I also told them to use their free time to study or do their reports but of course nobody did. It was only 9.40pm. We had to wait until 12am for juniors to do shift so seniors lepaked around the fire.
Look! Ghost! Nola, its just Jo-Lyne drying her towel
Day 3
Everyone got up at 6.30am. After washing up, they had morning exercise again ( just stretching ). Us seniors.. Hehehe.. We warmed up with exercise our arms; we chopped firewood! xD Anyway, the morning followed with the usual tent inspection and they had break with strawberry jam and fried eggs. They then had 30 minutes to study their Section 2 of road rules and later, 30 more minutes to study peta topo. They failed both tests tho.. Hmmm…
As Jo-Lyne says; This is how a 10th Petaling studies for Maju badge.. Kononnya studying, he fell asleep =.=
Taking exam.. Oi Wai Guan, pay attention!
I then asked Choon Huang to train them kawad tongkat, but that fella forgot most of it and even when he did remember, its wrong… I damn geram that time cuz he passed his test edi, and I was so tempted to fail him there and then. Suannn… Jo-Lyne rescued him by helping us teach the juniors. I helped out with lunch; bake beans mixed with sardine ( Szi Wei’s idea ), cabbage and rice. Szi Wei’s dad came with a friend around that time and he brought us water, small mandarin oranges and a WATERMELON. Wah liao wei.. The juniors were staring at lunch and the fruit so Jo-Lyne belakang-sing them. Paiseh them. Hahahaha! Szi Wei was muttering; “If they keep ooo and aaa the fruit, I’m not giving them any…”
During lunch, once again the food wasn’t enough for seniors but nevermind, we’re used to it. What annoyed me was hearing someone said; “I kesian seniors wei. They don’t get to eat a lot every meal”. How that person said it sounded so insincere and that fella always ask us if we have food. Oi stupid! If you kesian us then stop eating so much la! Don’t say things and don’t mean it! =.=
We started collecting firewood early as BBQ Night was that night and it was about to rain. Hui Ting and Yeong Ken who was taking their firelighting test were supposed to look for their own firewood. Us seniors stayed in camp to separate the firewood, get rid of unnecessary items so we have a lighter load to carry the next day and collect bamboos to make skewers. It was then when I heard something extremely stupid and funny.
SziWei: What the heck wei…
Maddie: Apa hal?
SziWei: Juniors were gone for 30 minutes and they came back without any firewood!
Erm? This is zadao number 3 and I’m sorry to say this, but its the most stupidest thing I’ve ever heard. Come on man, the minute I step out of our campsite borders I already find at least ONE piece of firewood. How you expect to find your firewood wei? Do you think its simply lying on the pathway for you to take? Or better, it will fly/walk/run/jump towards you? Use common sense la! The sides got firewood one! What’s more, Szi Wei and Geoffrey planted firewood for you all and I believe you all only took that! WTHHHHHHHHHHH!
Wendy and I went to bath when the juniors were separating the firewood and making skewers. At least when we came back, there was enough firewood.. Thank God! Soon after that, it started raining so everyone took shelter again. This time the rain was quite heavy and once again, the junior’s tent got flooded. This time we gave them a spade ( very mini spade, only had one ) to build a drain.
However, they were clueless so we instructed them. Yeong Ken started to dig but it wasn’t deep enough plus he needs help so we told the juniors to use their spoons to dig. I dunno if they’re deaf or didn’t hear us, but they never did help him. So they end up using A spade to dig. Then Wai Guan, who was digging had leg cramped so someone yelled; “Wendy! Chao gan!”. After that, I couldn’t stand watching the juniors so I went and guide them to build the drain.
Then came 6.30pm, time to start fire. Both Yeong Ken and Hui Ting failed also as they did not save any dry leaves thus cannot ignite fire. Haizz.. Nevermind.. Then me and Wendy tried lighting for 20 minutes but didn’t work cuz even with flysheet to cover, the firewood is wet. We end up using lots of tissue and by 8 something did we get the fire going. While we tried saving the fire, a few went to skewer the chicken ( but later had to be re-skewered by Jo-Lyne cuz many weren’t done properly ).
I wanted to take a nice photo, but Geoffrey and his ass got in the way
Chicken in the wok, sausages in the mess tin
Trying to ignite the fire
Finally at 9 we can barbeque.. Yay! We had chicken, sausages, biscuits, roti lilit and potatoes to eat, but I doubt its enough as there weren’t a lot except for chicken and roti lilit which I dunno why some juniors taknak makan. Some went take shelter under the kitchen cuz it started drizzling. First time juniors not interested in BBQ-ing… Scared of rain izit? Cis.. Takpe, those not eating made themselves useful by chasing the dogs away.. Yes, there were dogs around. Funny thing is, they hunted our newspapers and plastics not food. Weird huh?
BBQ lasted till 11pm ( Wai Guan kuat makan roti lilit and chicken.. He’s our ‘dustbin’ of the day . xP ). Next was games presented by juniors. The problem with their game is, its not suitable as it goes against our code. For example; the hugging game. Guy not supposed to touch girl la.. Ahem! Takpe, they played a game presented to them by Szi Wei or Geoffrey. At least they had fun playing.
What's that between Yeong Ken and Kah Pohh? Wai Guan was suppoed to be standing there but.. What's that thing floating beside Yeong Ken's body? ......Creepy
At 11.50pm, we told them to double check their stuff are packed and what’s the agenda the next day so we can hurry back home. Jo-Lyne then lectured them over what they did wrong during the camp. Dunno whether they listened to her or take her seriously or not laa.. You’ll see why I said this...
Day 4 ( pictures with Wendy, will upload it soon )
Final day! Woohoo! ( and I can finally sleep soon! Been typing for 4 hours edi + distractions… lol! ) So we woke up at 6am, straight away wash up stuff from BBQ night and did our final test; personal items needed for camp. We did the layout system but I dunno why it took them 1 hour to do it. I know they’ve never done it before but that’s not an excuse! Whatever la. Breakfast was heavy; French toast with omelet mixed with luncheon meat. Oh, Szi Wei also chopped his watermelon so everyone ( except Jo-Lyne and Hui Ting who didn’t want it ) got to eat/drink something juicy.. Wendy makan until too full of water edi! xP
Tents, kitchen, groundsheet, flysheet were finally packed at 9 something. QM items that can be fitted into bags were done. Yaaaay~! Lucky it didn’t rain or else we couldn’t cross the river. Luck was on our side for now! We walked out of the jungle and reached the Orang Asli settlement at 10.30am. Poor Geoffrey who had to carry rubbish bags. Kinda sad we couldn’t find a place to dump it until we were out on the main road ( which was 1km out of the village ).
The most distressing part of our hike to the KTM station was the distance! Ugh! Someone told me it was only 6km away, but in reality it was TWELVE KILOMMETRES! WHAT THE HECK WEI! Damn regret not bringing shoes… We walked to Splash Info Centre to use the toilets and asked if there’s any taxi in the area ( so we can lighten our load and get people who were going to KO to the KTM first ). Too bad our area is kinda deserted… Anyway, we reached the town at about 2 something. Just in time, as it started to rain heavily then.
We took shelter in the chicken rice shop ( it was closed ) and had a lunch of milo, bread, baked beans and sardine there while waiting for the rain to subside. At 3pm, we set out again. As we walked, the rain got heavier once more and not long after, we got soaked like mad. We reached the station ( which was 2.5km away ) at 4pm. In the station, we quickly changed to dry clothes and catched the next train which comes at 4.17pm. Whoa! We made it in time as the next train was at 5.17! Yay us!
We had our post mortem in the KTM. People were like, staring at us. I mean, who wouldn’t la? We carried tongkat, flysheet, groundsheet, backpacks, first aid kit, a pail and even a kettle! People must think we’re from the kampong.. Zadao.. Geoffrey kept teasing me, saying; “Eh kampong person, why you come all this way to cuci your clothes a?” as I was holding the pail.. Damn wei, wanted to kick that fella.
In the LRT, Szi Wei, Geoffrey, Jo-Lyne and I were in the same train section so we were chit-chatting. All of the sudden, Szi Wei was talking about an incident where when they went for a survey, Alvin had to do a very big ‘business’ beside the main road and that fella didn’t wipe his ass! So he went on about how the LRT stank and it was unfortunate that he and Geoffrey were standing beside him… Then hor, the person beside us who was eating McD sundae somewhat choked on his ice-cream. Apparently he heard us.... OoOooOoPpppS!!!
We changed topic, so we talked about Geoffrey’s bad breath. That fella didn’t brush his teeth for 4 days so we were ‘complimenting’ it. The guy eating sundae choked again.. SWEAT! I pity the fella wei. Szi Wei made matters worse by embarrassing himself infront of the guy.
SziWei: Eeeei, Taman Jaya next right? My area wei! I want to stop here!
We all kept quiet. Then 3 minutes later…
SziWei: Eh, is this Asia Jaya already? Must get ready to stop edi!
Guy: Erm.. No, its Taman Jaya.
Us: Oi Szi Wei! You said this is your area, you don’t recognize aaa?!
The guy shakes his head and smiles.. Okaaaay…
We reached Asia Jaya at 6.05pm. We rushed off to Szi Wei’s father’s car to dump the QM items in it. Wendy, Wai Guan, Szi Wei and Geoffrey went back to school first while the others waited with me for my dad to arrive. Jo-Lyne and Choon Huang went back themselves. Cuz of the jam, my dad only arrived at 6.45pm. We arrived in school at 6.55 and then… Camp’s over!
By the way, us seniors have lots to say about this camp..
1) Juniors get distracted too easily. When we talk to them ( post mortem ) or when they are taking test, the slightest movement catches their attention and they’ll lose focus. For example, when I was talking the KTM door suddenly opened to let people in/out. Many juniors turned their heads and stared at the peoples movement instead of listening.
2) We give them more time and food to eat, but for what? They don’t do work properly. Washing QM utensils also not very clean, almost everytime got sand in our food or still have food or soap after washing. They no semangat also, can see that in marching.
3) Not helpful. When we ask for volunteers or ask them do work, like what Szi Wei said: First time ask, some people just stare at us ( at least stare at each other is better than stare back at us cuz its like, “senior, you crazy ar go ask us do work?) or some staring at other direction and also, got one scratch butt. Need ask more than 3 times to get someone to respond. What is this???
4) Need to be told to do things. Like when they took down the boys tent, they left the flysheet just like that and loitered around doing nonsense. Please people, we already told you the day before what to do. Raffia is ready for you, just go roll the stuff up and don’t wait until we tell you to do it! Fixing your tent also should be your problem, cuz its your TEST and we’re not supposed to help you! If you know its problematic, then fix it yourself or even if you dunno, ask us how to do it instead of waiting for us to find you and tell you.
5) Too reliant on senior. Almost same as needed to be instructed. Seniors are only there to help, not do your things for you! Someone kena leg cramp ( read day 3 report ), go help them la! Don’t scream “Senior! Cramp!” and what’s more, you’re not the one hurt! Have you ever thought of HELPING your friends first? And to collect firewood, must we find it for you all? You step over some seniors cuz they are friendly or are too kind summore.
6) The most important thing to have… COMMON SENSE. A lot of things happen cuz of this.
Situation A : Groundsheet is bigger than your roof, of course if rain the water will flow into your tent right?
Situation B : When you’re injured, CHECK YOUR INJURIES!! Don’t go yelling, senior I need first aid without checking! Lets say you’re not feeling and you go to the doctor, he ask you what’s wrong. You say dunno so instead he will ask you to go hospital for full body check up which cost about RM300+ or maybe he inject you with God knows what liquid and the funny thing is, you only have a common flu. So when you yell for first aid, how do we know what you need? Should we take out all our medicine to treat you?
Situation C: I asked someone to put their bag under the KTM seat as it was blocking the pathway. What answer do I get? “ Can’t fit. My bag’s too TALL.” Oi brother, have you ever heard of lying your bag flat so it can fit in?
Situation D: Ever considered asking a senior when you dunno how to do things? Lets say you don’t understand the test you’re taking, at least you can ask beforehand right? You ask us when you’re taking test, what the…
7) Not prepared. Hellooooooo? You’re going for a jungle camp, not picnic! Bring a torchlight for goodness sake! Didn’t bring sleeping bag cuz someone told you not to? Screw that someone la, he’s not the one going for camp, YOU are! Then all the tests, why didn’t prepare? Didn’t study? 2nd day you slept so early, can spend that time doing your reports or studying but no, you guys slept. Coming to this camp is to take your exams, not study for it.
8) Where’s your EQ mannn? Many times I hear questions like, “Oooo! Can I have a biscuit?” or even commands like, “ Senior! Leak! Water drip!”. So what? During my time, when anyone dared to speak like that we’d probably get banged kao kao from seniors. Ever considered talking nicely like, “Excuse me senior, but there’s a leak in our tent. Can you help us please?” Never once in this camp have I heard proper sentences like this. And when we do the things for you, especially those who treat your injuries or give you food, have you said thank you without us reminding you? Some of you learnt to use it around seniors, but to your own friends? What’s the point you learn and not use it daily?
9) To the 2 committee: I know you want to pack light but don’t forget stuff like spade, enough kerosene and sulphur, matches, rubbish bags, and many others~! Also, help your juniors in whatever way you can and I don’t mean help them find firewood. You can teach them, not do work for them. Instruct them on what they need to do instead of doing it yourself. Don’t get pushed around so easily as you’re not to pamper them.
Juniors! Improve yourselves kao kao! Please learn from your mistakes and do better. This is very essential when you’re out of school and need to work. If you all function like this, its very hard to live yourself edi. Be independent and do your best in everything you do. Don’t make empty promises with us and repeat things over and over cuz if you do, watch out…
Overall, the camp was good and it ran smoothly even with just 2 committee. Eventhough the outcome was quite disappointing, at least the test-takers tried, passed a few tests and joined this camp. Very happy as I’m sure everyone learned a thing or two from this camp ( unless there are a few stone heads out there ). Also, I wish to apologize to anyone whom I had offended during this camp. Very very sorry…
:D
So happy.
Maybe cuz my post is dammmmn long.. 5168 words wei, damn chun xP
Nites people!
